“My contractor says I can’t rebuild my house the way I want.”
I received a call from the son of a client. His proposed contractor said that the major renovation he intended to do on his recently purchased property was not structurally possible. The elevated home had a wrap around cantilevered wood deck that he intended to make part of the home’s interior. He was told this was not possible. After meeting at the site I contacted a Structural Engineer and began to work it out. By adding 45 degree knee bracing, minor foundations, and some beam reinforcement the problem was solved. Not all people look at a problem the same way. The homeowner got exactly what he wanted.
